REFLECTIONS

2/17/10: Activity 9

1.] The video we had to watch for activity 9 deal with how the world is changing languages and becoming smaller as a world, both reasons that are relevent to Social Studies and english. For example, in English, the world is whitnessing the disintigration of a language into another realm of acceptable jargon that is always evolving, from the texts we were used to reading for high school, to the walls on youtube. In Social Studies, the study of people is being conducted on the world, by the world, where hundreds oft thousands of people. These people are conducting nacissistic experiments to see who will want to watch them and save them from the current evolution of the "whatever" mentality exhibited by the crowds.

2.] Recognition refers to a part in the video where the lecturer explains the difference between "cognition" and "recognition" When something is first observed, it is cognition, or the encoding into memory this particular snipped of information. Recognition occurs when previously known knowledge is exibited repeatedly in social settings, which also gives the information relevency. For example, the "Charlie Bit Me" video is one of the most viewed on youtube, and is the cognition. But after people see this video, there are sillier spoofs put out by other people, recalling and drawing from previously stated information, whether they have remixed the video into a rap song, or doing a satire of the video themselves, the video is being recalled and given increased relevency which each spinoff.

I am beyond pumped about Laurel and Sam's pages on cats. Cats are total jerk-wads, but the greatest thing to blog about, due to cat massages and kittens; inspired by kittens.

Also, Chris' page, with the fishes....unbelievable.

I chose to keep things incredibly simple but informative, like the first grade teacher's page. The more complicated the page, the more distracted an individual may be by the content .

I used a poll and other interactive pieces to engage the reader.
